Are parents of minor children required to take parenting classes?

It's entirely up to the judge trying the case.  If he or she does order parenting classes, there are several different kinds of available programs.  Some are geared toward the children, others geared more toward the parents, and they can range in price from $30 to $75 lasting anywhere from 4 to 15 hours.

Who pays for mediation?

Will separate property my spouse inherited be divided?

Property that a spouse inherited along with property he/she owned prior to marriage or received as a gift is considered separate property.  Therefore, it is not subject to division in a divorce.  However, if the parties' salaries or other community propertyGenerally, this is all property that was acquired during the marriage. was spent on the separate property of one spouse during the marriage, the other spouse may have a right to reimbursement for the funds spent on the separate property.

Can I get an appointed attorney in a divorce case?

No, typically you cannot get a appointed attorney in a divorce case.  The court will usually appoint an attorney when one party is missing or cannot be found.  In this situation, the court would appoint an attorney ad litem.  An attorney ad litem would represent the missing person's interests as related to property division issues and child issues.

How soon can I get remarried?

The Texas Family Code says you have to wait at least 30 days after your divorce is finalized to remarry.  However, at the time of your divorce you can request that the Judge waive this 30 day waiting period.
