How soon can I start dating?

My spouse doesn't live in Texas, can we still get a divorce here?

Either you or your spouse must have been living in Texas for at least 6 months and in the county in which you're filing for the preceding 90 days before you can file for divorce.

There are also some special exceptions for members of the military that have been stationed elsewhere.

I don't want a divorce, how can I stop it?

There isn't anything you can do legally to stop a divorce if your spouse wants it. You can't keep someone in a marriage if they don't want to be in it.

Notice that I said you can't do anything "legally." I'm certainly not implying that you do anything illegal, but you can always try some non-legal options. read more »

Can I change my name after my divorce?

If you want to change your name at the time of divorce, it's actually called a "restoration of former name." Although name changes are more common for the wife, either spouse may change their name back to a name he or she has used before. For example, a wife may go back to her maiden name or to a name from a previous marriage. However, you must go back to a name that you have used in the past. What are the grounds for divorce?

Texas is a "no-fault" divorce state. That means that you can file for divorce simply because "the marriage has become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities between you that has destroyed the legitimate ends of the marriage."

Insupportability is the most common ground.
