In a divorce, the term \u201cproperty\u201d covers a lot of different things. It can include all of the following and more:\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>House<\/li>\n<li>Cars<\/li>\n<li>Bank Accounts<\/li>\n<li>Retirement Accounts<\/li>\n<li>Debts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nAll of this property can either be classified as either separate property or community property.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nSeparate property is anything either of you owned individually before you were married. It also includes property given to one of you as a gift; an inheritance; or a personal injury award.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nCommunity property is everything that you and\/or your spouse acquired during the marriage. There are a few exceptions to this.
